    On March 28th, we hosted our 2nd ever mini-session, with Lynne McCauley of the Spofford Group presenting on cyber exposures and liability insurance.  After networking over cocktails and dinner, Tracy Harding, Principal, Berry Dunn, Susan Hannigan, CFO, Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union and a member of FASB's CECL Transition Resource Group and Neekis Hammond, Senior Risk Management Consultant, Sageworks discussed some of the many key considerations and planning ideas relating to the new CECL standard.  Todd Desjardins of Berry Dunn moderated the group.  Thanks to all who brought questions for the panel.

    On February 28th we hosted our first mini-session.  Thank you to Robert Giltner, Chairman, RCGILTNER Services, Inc. and Trevor Knott, Senior Vice President, Business Development, BSG Financial Group, who explored the digital lending market and revenue potential for financial institutions. 

    After cocktail hour and dinner, Robert Segal, CFA, Atlantic Capital Strategies, Inc. and Frank Farone, Managing Director, Darling Consulting Group, Inc., discussed strategies to plan for rising interest rates.

    On January 31st we welcomed Tim Warren of the Warren Group, along with  Paul Yorkis, President of the Massachusetts Association of Realtors, and Morgan Fennell, Vice President of The Appraisers Group.  The evening highlighted local and national real estate trends.

    It was also Bring a Guest Night, and we were happy to welcome 15 new guest. Thank you to all who attended!

    We were thrilled to welcome so many of you back to our first dinner meeting of the 2016/2017 FMS Boston Chapter season!   It was great to see so many familiar faces and some new ones too, as we socialized over cocktails, sponsored by RSM.

    Thank you to Jason Hwang, vice president and director of planning and research at the FHLB of Boston, for sharing his views on the outlook for 2017 and the new Trump Economic Agenda.  If you would like to refer to Jason’s presentation, you can find it here. 

      

    And a very special thank you to all of you who donated a toy (or 2) for Toys to Tots.  The Toys for Tots program distributes toys as Christmas gifts to needy children throughout our communities.  We are overwhelmed by your generosity!

    We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting in January.  Guests of members are welcome to join our January meeting at 1/2 price.  We hope to see lots of new faces in the new year!

    Please join us for the 3rd Annual Deb Jackson Memorial Golf Classic on Monday, August 22nd, 2016, at the Four Oak CC in Dracut, Massachusetts.

    As many of you know, Deb was the Chief Financial Officer for Hingham Institution for Savings for over 15 years and was a member of the Boston Chapter of the Financial Managers Society.  Most recently she was the President of East Boston Savings.  She passed away after a battle with plasma cell leukemia.  This golf event in her name supports the efforts of the Jimmy Fund in fighting this disease.

    The FMS Boston Chapter Officers welcome our newest officer, Jay Stephens, CFO, Lowell Five, Chapter Secretary.  The Officers are currently working on the 2016/2017 and are looking forward to another exciting season.  Much more information will be coming soon!  We also wish to thank our immediate past President, Denise Carbone, for her commitment and dedication to the Chapter over the last 4 years.

    A special thank you to John Gagnon and Bolicoli.com.  John donated 4 great seats to an upcoming Celtics game to the FMS Boston Chapter.  The tickets were raffled off at our March dinner meeting.  Congrats to the winner, Ana Dyer.  Enjoy the game Ana!

    We are excited to announce that applications are now available for FMS Boston’s 2016/2017 Scholarship.  The Boston Chapter will award one scholarship annually for $1,000 to an individual who meets all of the following criteria.

    ·         Award recipient must be a son, daughter, or grandchild of an active Boston Chapter Member.  Not a member?  Join Now!

    ·         Recipient must be planning on attending or currently attending in a two-year or four-year undergraduate degree at an accredited institution.  Priority preference will be given to students that concentrate in finance, business or accounting studies, however, any major will be given consideration. 

    ·         A minimum GPA of 3.0 or better at current institution of learning, including high school.

    ·         Awarded scholarship check will be payable in the name of the student and the FMS Chapter member upon receipt of commitment letter copy.  The $1,000 scholarship may be used to pay for college tuition, books and/or fees.  Please limit submissions to one submission per member per year.
